A MAKEUP mirror reflecting onto a curtain caused it catch fire.

Firefighters were called to Earnsdale Avenue in Darwen at 6.35pm on Friday.

Tony Keane, the station's watch manager, said: "The fire was out and curtains removed outside before the call the owner said he was concerned and unaware how the fire could have started.

"On investigation a makeup mirror had reflected the sunlight back onto the curtains causing burning.

"The bedroom door was closed and the curtain quality restricted the amount of damage caused.

"A ventilation unit was used to remove the residual smoke and a thermal image camera to check for any further problems. When not in use remove shaving or makeup mirrors out of direct sunlight."
