Tony Mowbray will come up against one of the most animated managers in the Football League when Peterborough United arrive at Ewood Park.

Posh chief Steve Evans is well known for his passion on the touchline, compared with Mowbray - a man who prefers to keep his emotions in check even in the tension of a promotion race.

So how does the Rovers boss manage to stay so calm in the pressure environment of football management? Preparation, he says, is key.

He said: “Generally because we have done the work beforehand. You paint a picture of how you expect the game to go.

“I expect Peterborough to have a threat on the change of possession, on the break.

“You have to try and manage the game beforehand, when they do have opportunities that’s okay. They’re allowed to have shots, they have had more than anyone in the league this season.

“You have to manage your expectation of the game. If you can do that and you’ve already tried to paint the picture of how the game will go, it’s easier to manage your emotions.”

Posh still have a chance of making the top six, heading to East Lancashire three points off the play-offs in ninth position.

And they boast an experienced manager in Evans who has won a wealth of promotions during his career.

Mowbray added: “Steve is emotional, but he’s a bright guy who understands football.

“He knows his team can’t win every game but he wants them to be competitive in every game.

“He’s been around a long time, won lots of promotions and he knows what it takes. I’m sure he’s aware of our strengths and qualities we possess and he will be trying to manage those.”

Evans replaced Grant McCann as boss in February and Mowbray added: “There’s a different style (at Peterborough) from the games I’ve watched.

“They look a bit more compact, before they were more of an open, expansive team.

“They still have Marcus Maddison and (Jack) Marriot up top who’s the top scorer in the league.

“We have to be mindful of their threats, but we have to play to the strengths of our quality players and ask questions of them. Hopefully we find a way of winning three points.”
