A TECHNICAL fault in a pumping station left hundreds of homes without water for around 12 hours.

Residents in Oswaldtwistle and Accrington reported having no water in their homes from around 6pm on Wednesday evening.

United Utilities said the issue was due to a technical fault at Willows Lane pumping station.

Just after 8.30pm last night engineers also attended Cocker Cobbs Service Reservoir in Oswaldtwistle to work on technical issues.

The company reported at around 6.45am today they had finished repairing the technical fault and water would return to normal levels within two hours.

Water tankers worked across the area to help restore the water.

United Utilities said: "Our team of engineers has finished repairing the technical fault at Cocker Cobbs Service Reservoir and the water should be starting to flow normally again.

"We’re sorry if this has affected you and thank you for your patience.

"Because there’s been some disturbance to the pipes in your area you may notice the water is a little cloudy or discoloured."

United Utilities said engineers worked through the night at Willows Lane pumping station to resolve the technical fault on its water mains network.

Water on wheel vehicles were also used to pump water into the main supplies.
