A MAN who was trying to raise money to pay for his dad's funeral agreed to repair a tipper van for £80.
Blackburn magistrates heard Martin Ian Moore was spotted by police as he drove the van from one end of the estate to the other.
And checks revealed he was still disqualified because he hadn't passed an extended re-test after being convicted of dangerous driving.
Moore, 25, of Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement, banned for 18 months, fined £5 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.
Richard Prew, defending, said his client's father had died late last year and he had struggled to cope. The family had been burdened with the cost of the funeral.
"He was offered £80 to have a look at the vehicle and intended to put the money towards the funeral costs," said Mr Prew.
