AN investigation is underway into a suspected arson attempt on a car which resulted in a woman needing medical treatment.

Firefighters were called to a car on fire by the road in Manor Street in Accrington at around 2.35pm today.

A fire crew from Hyndburn extinguished the blaze with a hosereel but a woman walking by suffered from smoke inhalation and needed treatment.

An investigation is underway to find the culprit and details have been passed on to police.

A fire service spokesman said: "We believe it was started deliberated.

"A woman, believed to be a passer-by, had inhaled smoke and firefighters administered oxygen prior to a precautionary check by paramedics."
