AFTER the opening of the new £8.6 million Raza Jamia Masjid we take a look at some of the region's other major mosque projects.
The Raza Jamia Mosque which opened in December in Accrington is the most expensive project in recent years.
Many new mosques have been built on land where there was already a mosque and cater for worshippers who live within walking distance of the building.
With construction costs going up year upon year all mosques have been funded independently through donations from the communities they serve.
The Jamia Sultania Mosque in Brierfield which cost £4m to build and opened in the summer of 2013.
The Masjid e Tauheedul Islam, Blackburn cost £3.5m and opened in June 2010. It was built alongside the old mosque which had opened in the twon 40 years earlier.
Bolton's largest and most famous mosque is the Zakariyya Jaam'e Masjid. It cost £3m to build.
One of the most recent mosques to open was the Masjide Salaam in Fulwood, Preston. It costs approximately £2.9m and like many other mosques on this list hosts regular open evenings for non-Muslims.
The Golden Mosque in Rochdale cost £2.4m and regularly hosts events during Ramadan aiming to educate non-Muslims on the holy month.
The Madina Masjid, Oak Street, Blackburn was built on the former mosque and is one of the largest in Blackburn. Here the picture shows the completion of the intricate dome which includes thousands of mirrors. The renovations cost £1.4m.
Jamia Masjid Ghausia Mosque in Burnley cost £1.5m and opened in 2009.
The Masjide Noorul Islam Blackburn is slightly different to traditional mosque designs and cost £1.3m. It opened in July 2010.
