TRAFFIC has been brought to a stand still in Rossendale following the outbreak of the 'mini Beast from the East'.

Drivers in East Lancashire have been urged to avoid the roads as snow hits the UK for the second time in less than two weeks.

Rossendale is one of the worst affected areas and police have said the whole of Rossendale is suffering from 'dangerous road conditions' including ice.

Forecasts show snow is expected in the area until at least 5am tomorrow morning.

Crawshawbooth has come to a 'stand still' due to vehicles getting stuck on Burnley Road near to the White Bull pub, police say.

Officers have also said Helmshore Road is 'very dangerous' with vehicles getting stuck on the road and multiple cars left abandoned.

A police spokesman said: "Please stay in and off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

"We are currently dealing with multiple reports of collisions throughout the valley."
