A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a HMRC telephone scammer.

Officers in West Craven have received numerous calls from residents regarding a 'supposedly' legitimate call from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in the last 48 hours, a police spokesman said.

The caller is believed to have said that the individual owes the HMRC a large amount of money and then asks for their National Insurance number and date of birth before going on to ask for further information, including bank details.

A warrant has now been issued for the arrest of the scammer and the police said they will be "knocking at the door".

In a Facebook post, a police spokesman said: "If you are unsure who you are talking to hang up.

"Any legitimate business will fully understand and contact you by other means.

"Please never give any personal details to anyone over the telephone unless you are 100 per cent positive who you are speaking to."
