AN MP has called for nominees to enter into a special awards programme to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NHS.

The NHS 70 Parliamentary Awards has launched in parliament and aims to celebrate the achievement of the NHS and those who work for it.

There are ten categories, including a Lifetime Achievement award, to honour those who have devoted their lives to make the NHS better for patients and staff.

Burnley's MP Julie Cooper said: “The NHS is one of the nation’s most loved institutions, and it is right that we take the opportunity of its 70th birthday to recognise and thank the extraordinary people – the everyday ‘healthcare heroes’ – who are there to guide, support and care for us day in day out.

“I know first-hand that there are many examples of excellent care and practice benefitting local people and I would urge those working with and for health and care organisations in the Burnley Constituency, as well as members of the public, to send me further examples they think deserve national recognition.”

Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry has also called for potential nominations in the different award categories.
