Although our daily delve into the Lancashire Telegraph archive offers a step back in time for readers, this photograph doesn’t go quite as far back as you might suspect.
It may look like a throwback to the Victorian era but the pupils at York Street CE Primary School, Barnoldswick, were actually posing for the camera in 1991.
They were taking part in the annual town gala and were representing pupils of the past as part of a display at the school.
Keeping them firmly in check was teacher Lynne Robinson who was threatening her class with the cane if they misbehaved - only for the purposes of the picture we hasten to add.
