HEALTH chiefs have given advice on how to keep a healthy heart ahead of Valentine's Day.

Next Wednesday will see people give their hearts away for Valentine's Day.

East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen CCGs will use the romantic day to advise people of the importance of keeping their heart healthy.

Doctors said eating healthy, exercising more, reducing alcohol and giving up smoking are some of the steps to take to keep your heart thumping.

Professor Umesh Chauhan, a GP lead within Pennine Lancashire, said: “Anyone of any age can take steps to keep their heart healthy.

“You don’t have to take massive steps like joining a gym or radically changing your meals, but make little changes.

"Try a new fruit or vegetable, drink a little less alcohol, go a street further than you usually would when you're taking the dog for a walk or leave the car at home if it's a short journey."
