PUBS in a town centre will come together to celebrate a Peaky Blinders themed night on St Patrick's Day.

More than 10 bars and pubs in Blackburn town centre will be hosting a Peaky Blinders-themed party to celebrate the show and growing night time economy of Blackburn.

Bars, including the Sun, Sir Charles Napier, the Drummers Arms, Tiki Monkey, the Vic pub, the Postal Order and Shhbar, have pledged to add a Peaky Blinder theme to the date in March.

The themed night will be held on the same day as Saint Patrick's Day, on March 17, to celebrate Irish culture and history.

Pub landlords from the town centre, who are taking part in the event, met with each other at Blackburn's Cellar Door bar dressed in the costumes worn by the show's characters.

James Lee Newton, from Blackburn's Nightlife group, has organised the Peaky Blinders themed night.

He said: "I have done this project since 2015 and trying to get the crowd into the place.

"One of the reasons why I want this theme night is Peaky Blinders is all the rage at the moment. Everyone is watching it.

"The characters on the show are half Irish and that made St Patricks Day the natural choice.

Phil Davey, who is the director of Cellar Bar, said: "I wanted to be a part of this event because it was different.

"I thought it was brilliant and said 'let's do it'.

"We know people who have opened a Peaky Blinders themed bar who are coming.

"This is a great event for the people of Blackburn and visitors to Lancashire."

Dean and Julie Rothwell, who have been running the Tiki Monkey since March, said: "It's our pub's one year anniversary on the same night so it will be a double celebration.

"We are putting on a buffet for the public to say thanks for the last 12 months."

Jade McHugh, who has been running the Squire bar for five years, said: "I think it's great that all of us are getting together from the town centre.

"I really like the show.

"On the night we will play Irish music and music from the Peaky Blinders soundtrack and wear fancy dress.

"We also hope to get some special gin that was used on the show."

Kerry McGregor, who runs the Sir Charles Napier pub, which has been running since the 1900s, said: "I'm very excited about this.

"It will be good for people that have never been out in Blackburn or have not been out for years and do not know the new bars that have been opening here."

Katie Foley, who has run ZY Bar in the town centre for 14 years, said: "We need some more people to come from out of town and this could be a great way to bring everyone together."

Mr Newton added: "This event shows a rise in night life and also it's increasing there is numerous amounts of people going into the Bees Knees and other places nocturnal.

"Blackburn is coming back."
