A FIRST look has been revealed into a new housing development featuring 45 homes.

Wainhomes has released a drawing for the scheme on land at school lane in Guide, a village on the edge of Blackburn.

The bid features three and four-bedroom family homes and would include a new access road, landscaping and parking.

People who were born and lived in Guide all of their lives are known as ‘Guiders.'

In the past, villagers have protested against the increasing industrial development of the area.

But Cllr Salim Mulla, who represents the area on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said the scheme was 'good news' and would provide 'much-needed housing in the area'.

He said: "There are two views here.

"Those of the residents who always want to keep it as a village and who are very independent, a view I respect.

"Then there is the second view that there is a demand for housing in the area and a crucial need to utilise homes.

"The site has been vacant for a while and I think this is a good scheme that will benefit the people of Blackburn and provide good homes for people to live in and enjoy the countryside on the outskirts of the town.

"This will be of benefit to the local economy and will mean people spend their money on services and shops in the town."

Cllr Faryad Hussain, who also represents the area, said: "I will be consulting residents on this matter for their views.

"I would have to see the plans first and whether they're on greenbelt or brownfield land first."

In planning documents on behalf of Wainholmes, Baldwin Design Consultancy Limited, said the site has been designed to complement the surrounding area, creating local identity and reducing antisocial behaviour.

They said: "Well-informed design and material choice will give the development longevity, contribute to the townscape and raise the aspirations of the area."
