A COMMUNITY group has received a £10,000 funding boost to help provide more opportunities for disabled people in sport.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust has secured a grant of £9,930 from the National Lottery Awards for All fund.

The funding will create more than 100 free disability sport sessions across East Lancashire in 2018.

The session will aim to address personal wellbeing, self-esteem, self-confidence, resilience, reducing social isolation and providing beneficiaries with the support they need.

Martin Fearon, CEO of the trust said: “This new project will be a huge benefit to our local community by providing free opportunities for disabled children and encouraging individuals to take part in fun sport-based activities.

“It will allow our charity to provide a number of extra activities that we don’t currently deliver.’’

This project is due to start in February 2018 and updates will be give by the trust over the coming months.
