A CANNABIS farm with drugs valued at £14,500 was discovered by police after a raid.

The neighbourhood policing team discovered the cannabis factory containing 29 plants in a mid-terrace house in Spring Street, Accrington, on Thursday morning.

Police said one man had been identified in relation to the offence and will be interviewed.

Officers were praised by councillors and residents in the area for their work in uncovering and dismantling the drug set-up.

Cllr Munsif Dad, who represents the Spring Hill ward on Hyndburn Council, where the street is, said the discovery came as a shock to him.

Cllr Dad said: “It is a very close-knit community around there.

“I know recently there have been problems right across Hyndburn but Spring Hill in the last few months has been quiet.

“I’d like to thank the police for getting out there and doing their job and putting an end to this.

“It’s important we raise awareness of things like this and people in the community who know of anything similar come forward to the police to help them.”

Residents on the street said they had no idea the drug factory on the street.

Today there were no signs on the street of the drug farm whose contents were removed by officers the previous day.

One resident said: “You just don’t know what is happening on your street anymore.

“Years ago everyone would really know each other and get along.
“It’s a sign of the times really.”

Another resident said: “I saw a few police cars driving round the area but I had no idea something like this was going on.

“You do hear about some troubles in the area, but to have something like this it is a shock.

“To know this is happening on you own street, it is something else, this is where families live.

“You just have to thank the police for uncovering it.”

Police said they attended the scene at around 10.35am and the investigation was still ongoing.

A police spokesman said: “The local neighbourhood policing team have discovered a cannabis factory consisting of 29 plants in a mid terraced house.

“The factory has been dismantled and a male will be interviewed in due course,” he said.

“The estimated street value at this moment in time is £14,500.
“No arrests have been made yet.”
