WEATHER warnings remain in place after a chaotic night for motorists across East Lancashire.

The Met Office said a yellow warning for snow and ice remains in place until 11am today as commuters make the journey to work.

A yellow warning is also in place for 'very strong winds' which will affect parts of the UK during Wednesday night and into Thursday.

The warning runs from 9pm until 11am tomorrow.

Forecasters have warned the winds could reach 70mph across northern England on Wednesday evening - and potentially could be another named storm.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

"Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible, along with some damage to buildings."

The A682 Manchester Road both ways between Limey Lane and Turton Hollow Road, near Love Clough, remained closed until around 11am this morning after being shut last night due to multiple road accidents on the icy roads.

More roads were effected last night as traffic was diverted through Accrington and some motorists spent around 90 minutes driving through the A59 Accrington bypass because of the conditions, a police spokesman said.

Ribble Valley Police closed Sabden Road in Clitheroe between the A59 and Sabden at around 4.30pm yesterday due to a collision and extremely poor weather conditions, but the road was later reopened.
