A SECURITY guard has been named as The Mall Blackburn’s Employee of the Year for 2017.

Soheb Valli was nominated by his colleagues as part of The Mall’s Star Awards, an initiative which recognises employees who go the extra mile each month.

Valli, known affectionately as Tez, has been described by management as ‘continuously going above and beyond the call of duty’ and he said it came as a ‘real surprise’ to him to win the award.

“I love my job and I am passionate about ensuring The Mall and the town centre is a safe and happy place for everyone to visit.

“I’m lucky to be surrounded by a fantastic team that share my ethos and it’s brilliant to be part of such a fantastic neighbourhood policing team” he said.

Last year the security guard was on shift when he noticed an area of stock was missing from Wilko.

Valli, who has worked at the Mall for nine years, found out the stock had been stolen and passed CCTV footage to the police who were then able to catch the thieves.

Speaking about how valued Valli is among his colleagues, Loraine Jones, general manager of The Mall said: “Not only is he very well respected by his workmates here at The Mall but we have received several letters and comments from retailers this year praising him for his work.

“This is a much deserved award for a very hard-working young man.”

As well as the award, much sought after title of Employee of the Year, Valli has received an additional day’s holiday.
