YOUNG people have been taking part in a project to help feed those in need.

Blackburn College students are giving back to their area by helping out with a Community Lunch project, held at Christ Church on Mosley Street.

Students from Health and Social Care have been taking part in the scheme.

The Community Lunch project aims to offer homemade food and a chance to socialise with friends and neighbours in Blackburn and Darwen.

Tutor Alison Thompson said “We are delighted to be helping Hannah Goldthorpe and her team to successfully carry out these events and are keen to develop excellent links between education and the local community.

“The community lunch project is a fantastic opportunity for our students studying Health and Social Care (Levels 2 and 3) to immerse themselves in the local community and benefit from developing their employability skills such as working as a team and offering a friendly and reliable service.

“These skills are imperative when engaging with social care and working in a practical environment allows our students to develop their personal skills, such as increasing confidence and developing effective communication."
