A PROTEST walk will take place today at an historic estate at risk of development.

Hulton Estate Area Residents Together (HEART) called for families to join them to walk the public footpaths of Hulton Park Estate.

The walk on December 27 echoes their calls to 'sleigh the development' of a golf course and more than 1,000 homes, which is currently under consideration at Bolton Council.

In May this year, developers Peel Holdings submitted plans for park restoration and an 18-hole championship golf venue, as well as construction of 1,000 homes at the site.

HEART said in their invitation: "Should planning permission be granted for a golf resort and houses, the footpaths will be moved into the middle of a housing estate. Don't let this happen.

"Make it a family day out and bring the dogs - don't forget your wellies as the paths are muddy."

The walk starts at 12noon in Manchester Road, Over Hulton.

Visitors are invited to park their vehicles at nearby Mary Seacole House.
