DANNY Graham is an invaluable asset to the Rovers squad and will play more regularly if he keeps performing to the level he has been in recent weeks.

That’s the view of boss Tony Mowbray who saw his experienced score the winner and impress in his 60 minute outing in the FA Cup replay at Crewe Alexandra on Wednesday.

That was his fifth goal of the season, three of which have come in that competition, but the 32-year-old has also made valuable contributions off the bench in recent weeks.

Graham has been in and out of the side so far this season as Mowbray has opted to rotate his strikers, starting consecutive league games just twice this season.

Dominic Samuel having started last week’s win at Peterborough United.while Joe Nuttall is also in the mix for the central striking role after his promotion from the Under-23s, but Mowbray admits Graham has a big part to play moving forward.

“Danny, I can’t heap enough praise on him because he’s so used to being the number one striker but now he does have competition,” Mowbray told the club’s official website.

“He’s been a consummate professional, not moaned or sulked, he’s accepted my decision and when asked to play if he keeps performing at that level he will playing a lot more.

“He’s experienced and is invaluable to this group of players.

“I said to Nuttall that he has to watch how Danny uses his body.

“He’s got huge experience that the young strikers can learn from and he has the personality that he wants to help them.”
