A RESTAURANT owner has submitted a retrospective planning application to retain a staircase in his town centre venue.

Reece Smith, who owns Tubbs of Colne, on Albert Road, in Colne, wants to retain a staircase to the rear of the building which is used as access to residential flats on the first floor.

The staircase, which is made of timber, was constructed as means of escape and access for the flats and includes a roof terrace above a rear beam.

Colne Town Council has strongly objected to the proposal because its detrimental effect on the Conservation Area and 'inappropriate' use of materials.

Neighbouring businesses and residents have also voiced their concerns and said it would be unsuitable use of combustible materials for a fire escape.

It will be discussed at Pendle Council's development meeting next Tuesday.
