THREE young members of a band performed live on television.

Chloe Anderson, Rebecca Brawn and Clara Slater from Blackburn Salvation Army Band were invited to perform live on Blue Peter on Thursday night, in an event that saw young people from all over the country come together for a special Christmas Performance.

The girls were all invited to represent the Blackburn branch of The Salvation Army Band in the performance which was shown live on CBBC.

Chloe, from Blackburn, described the experience as ‘a really good opportunity’ for the three members who were chosen to take part.

The 17-year-old has been playing the cornet for ten years and started to learn how to play the instrument with the Salvation Army Band.

She said: “Being on TV was really different to what I was expecting. I have been to the Blue Peter studios before but being on live television was a very different experience.

“I really like that we could give people the chance to see that the Salvation Army is really fun, and that it can be really great doing things for the church.”

All of the young musicians who appeared on Blue Peter were a mix of members from different branches of bands from all over the country.

Blackburn’s Salvation Army Band Master, Eric Millest, was full of praise for the girls’ achievements

He said:“All three of them are very talented and dedicated members of our band and they take part in many different carol services and events over the Christmas period.

“As well as the Blue Peter performance taking place on Thursday night, the rest of the band were taking part in the Lancashire Sings Christmas event, which unfortunately the girls couldn’t make it back in time for.”

As well as playing in The Salvation Army Band, Chloe also plays in her school orchestra at St Wilfrid’s Academy, where she is currently studying for her A-levels.
