THE best performing primary schools have been revealed after the Government published this year's key stage two SATs results.

The schools below are under Lancashire local authority control.

The tests, taken by pupils in year six, measure children's reading, writing and maths skills.

League tables published by the Department of Education (DfE) rank schools by the percentage of children reaching the expected standard at the end of key stage two in 2017.

In Lancashire, 61% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.

Across England, 61% of 11-year-olds who sat this year's Sats - or national curriculum tests - met Government targets in all three areas compared with 53% last year, according to the Department for Education (DfE).

Green Haworth Church of England Primary School, Accrington, was ranked as the best performing school.

County councillor Susie Charles, Lancashire County Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: "Educational performance in Lancashire continues to set a high standard in the region, and compares well with the national average.

"I'm really proud of these results. They are a testament to the high quality of the teaching in our schools and the commitment of pupils and their families to learning. And they show that the overall standard of education in Lancashire is up there with the best in the region.

"We certainly won't rest on our laurels though and we'll continue to make sure that we fulfil our aim of all our pupils being able to attend a school which is rated as good or outstanding. This is demonstrated by the county council's cabinet approving the new Lancashire Ambition plan last week, committing to building further upon our achievements."

Each school's ranking is based on the percentage of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. (Ties are broken by number of pupils eligible for the test, and then alphabetically)
