A GROUP of young Muslims will visit a hospice for a Great Christmas Get Together.
Inspired by the ‘Great Get Together’ held in memory of Jo Cox MP who was murdered in June 2016, a group of young Muslims from the One Voice Network, will visit East Lancashire Hospice on December 21 to be with those who might feel lonely over the festive period.
Irtazah Rashid, 17, from the One Voice Network, an organisation that works to address the inequalities and isolation that affect Blackburn people, said: “At a time when families and friends come together to be with each other, we felt it was important to remember those that can’t be with their loved ones or simply have no-one.
“If it means pulling up a chair and having a chat or just sharing a mince pie, we want them to know they aren’t alone.
“It’s also important for us to be here because we want to show people that we all have different backgrounds but we belong to the same community.
“Some of the elderly people we’re meeting might not usually come across young Muslims, so it’s heart warming to see how much we all have in common.”
