A PARKING firm has sent out warning letters to Morrisons shoppers telling them they could be fined £85 if they continue to flout car park rules.

Euro Car Parks, which has taken over the running of Blackburn supermarket’s car park, has written to drivers whom they believe have not paid to park.

But it appears the firm has sent out letters to some who have permission to park on the car park – leaving drivers concerned that they could be wrongly fined.

In one letter sent out headlined ‘Polite Information Letter’ the firm said: “We have been appointed to manage the parking restrictions within the car park at ‘Morrisons - Blackburn Top Deck’ in order to ensure that customers can easily find a suitable parking space when visiting the premises.

“We are using cameras to capture images of vehicles entering and leaving the car park.

“On December 4 your vehicle was parked onsite and did not adhere to the terms and conditions as stipulated on the signage.

“We feel that the terms and conditions within the car park are fair and reasonable, therefore, the next time you fail to adhere to the terms and conditions in accordance with the signage an £85 parking charge may be issued.

“We would like to thank you for your help and co-operation and hope that you understand us taking this approach to ensure that you can always find a parking space when you visit Morrisons Blackburn - Top Deck.”

The letters have also been sent out to town centre workers who have annual parking passes to park on the top level of the car park.

Some Blackburn companies pay Morrisons an annual fee to allow their staff to park on the long stay section of the car park.

A Morrisons spokesman said the letters had been issued in error by Euro Car Parks.

The parking firm was also approached for comment but did not respond.
