A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a pensioner was assaulted on the doorstep of his home with a hammer.
Donald Burton suffered serious head injuries when he answered the door of his home in Rossetti Avenue, Burnley, on Friday, December 1, at around 6pm.
The 73-year-old was taken to hospital were he remains in a serious but stable condition, police said.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being treated for ankle injuries at a hospital in Liverpool.
DCI Geoff Hurst, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: "I would like to reassure the community that our investigation is very much on-going and they will continue to see extra police patrols in the area.
"We have made an arrest but I would still urge anyone with information that they think can help to come forward and speak to us."
