A 16-year-old boy is set to stand trial for allegedly robbing a man with a Samurai sword.
Burnley Crown Court heard how the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly robbed David Hughes of cash to the value of £40 in Rawtenstall on September 1, 2016. He is also alleged to have threatened Mr Hughes with the sword.
The teenager pleaded not guilty to robbery, threatening another with an article with a blade or point and having an article with a blade or point in a public place.
Meanwhile his co-defendant Ashley Leonard Cunningham, 18, of Church Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to robbing Mr Hughes in Rawtenstall on September 1, 2016.
But he pleaded not guilty to threatening another with an article with a blade or point and two counts of having an article with a blade or point in a public place. The later charge was in relation to a meat cleaver and a Samurai sword.
Prosecuting, Stephen Parker said Cunningham’s pleas were acceptable to the crown.
The 16-year-old was released on bail to stand trial at Burnley Crown Court on March 5.
Cunningham’s case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report. Judge Beverley Lunt said he will be sentenced at the conclusion of the teenager’s trial.
