A PRIMARY school hopes to burst the bullying bubble after releasing balloons as part of anti-bullying week.

St Stephens Primary School, on Robinson Street, Blackburn released a set of 100 balloons as part of the St Stephen’s anti-bullying campaign.

In the past week school children have engaged in various activities to promote an anti-bullying message.

A ‘graffiti wall’ was put up in the school’s hall where children wrote messages about how people can help each other and stop bullying.

Pupils also wrote a charter against bullying including treating people with care, how to show respect and promoting Christian values.

The highlight of the week was when dozens of children released 100 balloons in the school’s playground.

On one side of the balloon the children wrote the message and one the other side school teachers signed it with the school address and a message which read: “If you find me write to us and let us know where you found the balloon.”

The balloons have flown as far away as North Lincolnshire and Doncaster with recipients sending messages back to the Robinson Street school.

One resident from Doncaster replied with a written A4 letter accompanied with a picture of some animal friends that found the balloon. The animals included a wild boar, Buddy the cat and nine chickens.

In the response the resident also sent back a map showing where she found the balloons.

The school said the school children will be writing thank you letters back to people who have responded to the anti-bullying campaign.

Sian Abram, the school’s assistant headteacher, said: “This week has helped to show the children how you can support others in such a positive way.

“The campaign has gone even further than just our school, it’s gone UK wide.

“The children absolutely loved it and could not wait to release the balloon.

“Their faces were lit up and they were cheering with such excitement.

“It shows what thoughtful children we have at the school.

“It has been a really successful week."
