A PILE of bricks dumped in the middle of the road caused chaos on Tuesday night.

The bricks, which are believed to have been dumped by builders working in a property on the street, were left in the middle of Devonport Road in Blackburn.

The rubble totally blocked one half of the road, making it difficult for vehicles travelling on either side of the road to get through.

Police said the incident had been reported to them and had been passed on to Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Wensley Fold Cllr Quesir Mahmood said he saw the builders clearing away the bricks yesterday morning.

He said: "As far as I understand the rubble has now been shifted.

"I drove past this morning and saw labourers clearing it up.

"We contacted the owner of a property that is being worked on last night and he got the builders back in to clear it up.

"The frustration is that people seem to think they can get away with this kind of thing.

"The council is not here to pick up people's rubbish.

"I'm going to pick this up with the council officers and see if there is anything we can do to combat fly tipping."

Blackburn with Darwen's environment boss Cllr Jim Smith has asked anyone who witnesses fly tipping to report it.

He said:"This is the kind of behaviour we are trying to stamp out and we are now seizing the vehicles of people who fly tip like this.

"We will never be able to stamp fly tipping out totally, but we are moving forward with our efforts to combat it.

"If anyone has any information about this incident or past incidents please inform the council.
