CHOIRS have been on song in East Lancashire through many decades.

Most of our towns had their own civic choirs, as did local churches who, along with choral societies, often gave concerts in the local public halls and had their own calendar of events.

They also took part in music festivals, such as the Luther Greenwood memorial Festival at Colne, which dates back to 1900, but also at famous festivals such as the International Eisteddfod, where some hit the top notes.

Before the advent of television, many choirs also did broadcasts for light entertainment programmes on the radio. This image today shows the immaculately turned out Accrington Male Voice Choir, with two trophies, back in 1966.

* In one recent nostalgia image, showing Blackburn's old greyhound track, we asked if anyone knew the pub, which once stood on the corner of Crabtree Street.

Jim Robinson, reckoned it was the The Duke of Edinburgh, possibly a Lion Brewery pub - his grandma, a mother of nine, who lived in long-gone Ester Street, would occasionally enjoy a Saturday night there. Mike Lamb also recalls the Rose and Thistle, a Thwaites house, which backed on to the canal on Harwood Street and the Corona pop depot, which was next to the dog track in the sixties.
