A FOODBANK is commemorating its fifth anniversary this week.

Blackburn Foodbank is holding an open day at The Oaks, in Oakenhurst Road, Blackburn, to recognise this landmark on Thursday from 11am to 2pm.

Blackburn Foodbank provides emergency food and support for local people in crisis.

The group has developed support services and the open day will help to promote these services.

The services are for families struggling to put food on the table as well as people on low incomes.

Ros Duerden, Blackburn foodbank manager, said: “In the past five years the group have fed and supported 40,000 people but bosses haves said food is not enough.

“The open day is to promote these services.

“A sudden crisis – redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill – can mean going hungry.”

Anyone can attend the open day in Oakenhurst Road.
