MOTORISTS have aired their opinions after new average speed cameras designed to cut accidents on one of East Lancashire’s most dangerous roads went live.

The notorious B6232 Grane Road, which runs from Belthorn to Haslingden, has seen two people killed and 118 injured, 13 seriously, in the last seven years.

To combat the problem, road safety bosses have installed average speed cameras along the five-mile stretch to carry out enforcement on speeding drivers between junction five of the M65 at Guide to the A56 at Haslingden.

Lancashire Telegraph readers took to Facebook to express their views with many supportive of the idea in reducing speeding and improving road safety.

Eileen Murray said: "It’s a road that is often not driven according to the conditions, not a bad road.

"Anything that will prevent accidents has to be worthy of consideration. "

Paul Greaves said: "About time something was done."

But some readers have questioned how effective the plans will be and have called for an alternative solution.

Tony Shackleton said: "Would be great but most drivers have slowed down to 30mph!"

"It's like Sunday drivers are out every day now."

June Roberts said: "To be honest it's about time it was upgraded to a duel carriageway, with the amount of traffic that now use it between the two motorways!"
