A WOMAN suffered serious burns after her clothes caught fire after she was hit by a firework.

Police are appealing for information after the 23-year-old woman was injured around 9.30pm on Sunday.

The victim was at a community event on Cedar Street, Blackburn when she was struck by a firework thrown by a group of youths, detectives said.

She suffered serious but not life threatening burns to her legs after her clothes caught fire.

She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where she remains.

DC Deborah Sethi, investigating, said: “This woman is extremely fortunate not to have suffered even more serious injuries.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened or who knows who any of this group of youths may be, to get in touch.

“I would also ask that if you were among this group that you come and speak to us.”
