A PAIR of J.M.W. Turner paintings have been sent to the Far East.

His watercolour painting of Towneley Hall together with Temple of Minerva, Cape Colonna, both by , have been sent to Japan.

The paintings, which have been housed in Towneley Hall in Burnley, will tour four locations around the country as part of the exhibition 'Turner and the Poetics of Landscape', before returning to Burnley next autumn.

Cllr John Harbour, Burnley Council’s executive member for housing and environment, said: “We are thrilled that two magnificent pieces from the Towneley Hall collection will be featured in such a high profile international exhibition.

“While they are on tour, there are a number of other masterpieces currently on display at Towneley Hall for visitors to enjoy, including a new photography exhibition.”
