YOUNG people who rushed to the aid of an an elderly gentleman who fell and injured his head have been praised by police.

The man fell outside Barnoldswick Police Station yesterday evening and suffered an injury to his arm and head.

He was helped by the youngsters who contacted the ambulance service and obtained the defibrillator from the Co-op car park.

Police described their actions as exceptional and said that they helped the gentleman, who was laid on the ground for more than an hour before being taken to hospital, remain calm and comfortable.

PCSO Mark Hyde said in a Facebook post: "There is a lot of negative comments on Facebook regarding young people, some of it justified, but on this occasion these young people were a credit to their parents, themselves and their schools.

" Unfortunately because I was busy at the time I was unable to obtain their names.

"If anyone has the names of the young people that assisted would you please contact me so that I can thank them personally and contact their schools to inform them of their actions."
