A DRIVER has been left in a serious condition following a collision with a lamppost.

Police said the incident, involving a Mercedes 220, occurred at around 5.30pm on Saturday on Eden Park, Blackburn.

The 49-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital before being transferred to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for anybody who saw the incident, or who saw the vehicle in the moments before the collision occurred, to get in contact.

Sergeant Lee Harris, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “A man is in hospital following this collision and first and foremost we would like to wish him all the best with his recovery

“We are now trying to piece together exactly what occurred and would like to hear from anybody who witnessed the incident but has not yet been spoken to by officers.

Similarly, anybody who saw the vehicle in the moments before the collision occurred is asked to make contact, as they may be able to shed some light on what led to it.”
