A GROUP of Accrington Academy's sixth form students have teamed up with Maundy Relief to provide care packages for people in their area.
Phoebe Kirkbright, Sadiya Mansha, Phoebe McCaffrey, Harleigh Middleton, Amy Gargan, Ellie Gordon and Katie Whitehead created six care packages comprising food, bottled water and toiletries, all donated by themselves.
They arranged to drop off the packages at the organisation based in Abbey Street, and then gave out the goods to different sites across the town.
During the visit, the sixth formers also took a hands-on approach, helping to serve lunch to those using Maundy Relief’s services.
Maundy Relief provides support for people with furniture, food, counselling for vulnerable people.
It also provides group activities and training to help people into employment.
The organisation is ran by volunteers from East Lancashire.
Year 8’s at the school also supported the idea by bringing in donations.
Accrington Academy’s head of school, Nicola Palmer, said: "Maundy Relief do an incredible job in and around Accrington and as a school at the heart of its community, we are pleased to have been able to lend our support.
"Well done and thank you to all those students who took part, in what was a very worthwhile venture."
