COUNCIL bosses will be using online video logs to better engage with their constituents.

The first ‘vlog’ was posted on the page yesterday and featured Ewood ward councillor Jamie Groves.

In the video Cllr Groves informed residents about work that will be done to the A666 following the appearance of a depression outside Ewood Working Men’s Club.

Cllr Phil Riley, executive member for Regeneration, said: “A depression has appeared in the centre of Bolton Road and repairs are going to be intrusive.

“In an attempt to tell more people about the works we have asked Cllr Groves to talk residents through the process.

“We have handed out leaflets on Bolton Road, but there’s a limit to the amount of people they can reach.

“We are hoping this will help to get the message out on a much wider scale.”

Cllr Groves said the decision to launch the vlogs was made following the success of a council run Facebook page dedicated to roads in Blackburn with Darwen.

He said: "The ‘BwD Roads’ Facebook page has attracted more than 10,000 followers.

“We were surprised at its success and though we could do more with it, now when we have road works we will be to be able to go through the process with residents.

“It will be a good way to keep constituents informed of what’s going on in their area and give local councillors and members the chance to say, in their own words, what is going on in their wards.

“Currently we are focusing on highways, but it is something we could look at broadening into wider areas.”

A council spokesman said: “A video is being produced to inform and update the public on areas we have identified for work.

“At present an investigatory excavation into what has caused the depression is due to start on the A666 on Wednesday 1st November which may cause some disruption on the network.

“We have timed it to ensure that any disruption will be kept to minimum.

“There will be two temporary lights which will be manually operated at peak times.”

Cllr Groves said: “We have intentionally planned the work for the half term week to minimise disruption.

“Anyone wanting more information should visit the ‘BwD Roads’ Facebook page for more updates.

“It will be especially useful as we are coming into winter when we will be providing updates on road conditions and gritting.”
