COUNCIL bosses have issued a warning after a women who was ordered to pay almost £400 for dropping litter.
Janet Furness, from Accrington, was seen discarding a prescription bag at the junction of Little Street and Willows Lane in Accrington, Blackburn Magistrates court heard.
She was spotted by a patrolling enforcement officer who issued her with a £75 fixed penalty notice for the offence.
The Ormerod Street resident failed to pay the fixed penalty and was taken to court by Hyndburn Council.
She was fined £220 and £30 victim surcharge and ordered to pay £125 legal costs for dropping litter.
Cllr Paul Cox, cabinet member for environmental issues, said: “Dropping litter is never acceptable, everyone must take responsibility for disposing of their own rubbish properly.
“This case sends a clear message that dropping litter could cost you and you may even end up in court.”
