DERRICK Williams believes that if Rovers consistently put in displays like they did against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday then results will turn in their favour.

Rovers created over 30 goalscoring opportunities against the Pilgrims but were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw as they remain 10th in the table with 12 games played.

Williams, an ever present so far, felt only the win over Rotherham United on September 26 was a better performance than Rovers put in the other day And he believes there are positives to take in to the home game with Portsmouth on Saturday.

“We had a meeting and showed that we created over 30 chances or attempts at goal,” the full-back said.

“I know the players we have, if we can keep creating that level of chances then we will take enough of them.

“We thought we played well on Tuesday, passed the ball well, created a lot of chances but didn’t finish them.

“We just need to get our confidence back, get a string of performances together as when you do that the results will come.

“Tuesday night, I think that was one of the best (games) we’ve played, I think Rotherham was the best and then the other night given the amount of opportunities we created and on another day we take those chances and push on.

“You have to take the positives from a performance like that, if you are creating opportunities you just need that end product to score the goals.

“It was very frustrating, it wasn’t our night.

“We have to move on now, hopefully take that performance in to Saturday and take our chances.”

Williams was one of several players to go close as his second half header was tipped over the bar when Rovers went in search of a second goal.

Ben Gladwin missed an even better chance in the fourth minute of added time, denied by a goal-line block, and Williams felt a first Rovers goal would have been a big lift to the confidence of the summer signing.

He added: “I think it summed up our night really, we played well but couldn’t finish things off.

“I felt a bit bad for him, he’s working really hard in training and I know it would have given him a big confidence.

“But he’s been on fire in training and hopefully he will take that in to the games.”
