A SECOND public meeting to ‘save Higham playing fields’ is to take place after plans were submitted to turn the site into a £2million community sports hub.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust is looking to transform the Thorneyholme Road site into a full size floodlit artificial football pitch and three grass pitches for various forms of rugby and football.

Plans also include a new multi use building, an artificial cricket wicket and a 55-space car park.

A ‘Save Higham Playing Fields’ group was set up earlier this year, led by Hyndburn Cllr Malcolm Pritchard, who wanted to keep the area free and open to the public.

The meeting will take place on Thursday at St Joseph’s Church Hall in Belgarth Road from 6.30pm.

Guests are invited to bring any letters of objection they have to the proposed development.

More than 1,000 people have signed an online petition against the move.
