THE Chorley Buccaneers American Football Club are holding free taster sessions to give youngsters the chance to take part in the sport.

The sessions are being held at Parklands High School in Chorley every Saturday throughout October - and the club is hoping to unearth new talent to add to its current crop of successful players.

The first session was held last Saturday with two more taking place on October 21 and 28 (10am-11.30am).

No prior knowledge or experience of American Football is necessary to attend the sessions and the club can work with all levels of sporting abilities.

The Buccaneers were formed in 2001 and now cater for players from six-years-old to seniors.

This season they have eight junior and senior teams competing in nationwide competitions.

The club were under 12s age group champions in 2014 and again in 2016.

“This is a perfect way to try a sport growing in popularity in the UK,” said Under 19s Head Coach Ian Nicolson

“The NFL are part way through hosting four regular season games in London and have been holding games in London for 10 years.

“The sport promises to continue its growth with the prospect of an NFL team being based in London within the next five years all but a certainty.

“The Buccaneers are enjoying similar growth and success.”

The Bucs competed at Under 12s Flag and Under 17s Flag - which are both non contact - and have Under 17s Kitted and Under 19s Kitted which are both contact.

The club’s Senior Flag team is for over 16s and is both male and female, with there is also a Ladies Flag team.

“It’s great to give people of all ages a chance to try American Football,” added Nicholson.

“We are at the very start of our season so now is a great chance to join the team.

“We hope to challenge for national titles at all age groups within the club, however, sporting ability is not the only thing we focus on at the Bucs. We also help players develop as young people and instil our pride and passion in all our players.”

Anyone attending the sessions should dress for the weather, bring footwear for grass and AstroTurf surfaces and a drink.
