THE parents of a talented teenage footballer who died suddenly at home have said his death was an accident.

It comes as footballers have taken to social media to pay tribute to 15-year-old Jordan Moseley.

Jordan was a winger in Accrington Stanley academy for several years and has been described as ‘popular’ and a ‘credit to his family’.

Accrington Stanley academy manager Paul Lodge said Jordan was a player he had ‘big plans for’.

Mr Lodge said: “Jordan was a lovely boy, he was a good player and the type of player every manager loves.

"He played on the wing, was a great athlete and a good runner. He was one we were watching for the future.

“We are all in shock and we know we will have to keep an eye on the other players, with counselling available if anyone needs it.

“Jordan was a credit to his family, he always worked hard, he was very popular and will be missed.

“All the academy lads knew Jordan and it’s been a huge shock to the staff and the players.”

Jordan was found dead in his home in Middleton on Tuesday.

Club officials said they had been contacted by Jordan’s family who said his death was being treated as accidental.

Stanley boss John Coleman said: “We are all shocked and saddened by what has happened. You get upset about results and then something like this happens, it’s a million times worse.”

Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn tweeted: “So sorry to hear this #RIPJordan.”

Former Stanley player Piero Mingoia tweeted: #RIPJordan. Thoughts are with the family x.”

Ex-Burnley midfielder Joey Barton tweeted: “Heartbreaking news about young Jordan Moseley. My thoughts are with all his friends and family at this time.”

The club’s under-18s match against Rochdale at Nelson this Saturday is set to go ahead, with the agreement of the academy staff and players.

There will also be a tribute to Jordan at Stanley’s home game against Barnet on October 28.

A club spokesman added: “Accrington Stanley would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and we will pass them onto Jordan’s family.”

Alastair Gloag, headteacher at Rishworth School, Halifax, where Jordan attended, said: "It is with deep regret that Jordan Moseley, a member of our Year 11 sadly died on Tuesday night.

"He was a very happy young man who was looking forward to pursuing a career in football.

"Our thoughts go out to his family at this tragic time and we ask that they and the school community are given the space and time to come to terms with his loss."

Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly after 7.40pm, police were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a teenager on Bishops Meadow, Middleton.

“Officers attended and despite the best efforts of paramedics, the boy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 9908 or 101 quoting reference 2046 of October 17."
