THE victim of an attack claimed his friend had subjected him to a sustained assault which included numerous punches and kicks.

The friend claimed it had been a single punched landed in self defence.

But Blackburn magistrates heard CCTV footage showed neither of them was telling the correct version of the incident.

Jack Evans, 19, of Rowland Avenue, Nelson, pleaded guilty to assaulting Callum Oliver. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £35 victim surcharge.

Alex Mann, prosecuting, said it had been a fall out between friends who were living in the same supported accommodation at the time.

Phillip Turner, defending, said Mr Oliver complained he had been assaulted by Evans and that it had been a sustained assault.

"My client denied that and claimed he was acting in self-defence," said Mr Turner. "What the CCTV showed quite clearly was that the incident wasn't as either of them described it. It refuted my client's claim of self defence but it also showed it wasn't a sustained attack. It was a single punch, followed by a bit of a scuffle after which they both walked off in the same direction."
