STANLEY boss John Coleman has told his players that he will be making changes for Saturday's trip to Crewe after labelling their goals against record this term as 'pathetic'.

The Reds threw away a winning position against Stevenage on Tuesday night, seeing a 2-1 advantage at the Lamex Stadium with seven minutes to go turn into a 3-2 defeat.

Three points would have taken Stanley back into the top three, but instead they are down in fifth and they've now conceded 18 goals this season, leaving Coleman furious.

"We're a good side. The fact we've conceded daft goals takes the gloss of it," he said.

"You're not going to keep being a good side if you concede soft goals. We've conceded 18 goals this season, it's pathetic. For the amount of possession we've had in games it's pathetic.

"The first goal we scored is as good as you'll see all season. We tried to see it out for the last 10 minutes and that's not us."

Jordan Clark and Billy Kee had put the Reds 1-0 and 2-1 up in Hertfordshire before the late collapse, and Coleman is planning changes this weekend as he fires a warning shot to some of his men.

"I'm definitely going to make changes on Saturday because there's too many players getting comfortable in our team and that's got to change," the Reds chief said.

"We've lost four games now and we should possibly have only lost one of them.

"We don't want to develop a soft centre and some of the players might think they've got a cushy life because they think they're going to get picked every week. Well there will be a few unhappy faces on Saturday."

Stanley had secured a crucial win against promotion rivals Coventry City on Saturday and for most of the night at Stevenage they looked like closing the gap at the top to one point.

And although they turned victory into defeat late on, Coleman is in no doubt they should have made the game safe.

"Even the most ardent Stevenage fan will think they've been fortunate to win the game, but they've scored three goals and we only scored two," he said.

"We had the lion's share of the game, we bossed the first half hour, we let them come into the game for 10 minutes but they haven't laid a glove on us in the first half. If someone had told you Stevenage would score three goals in the second half you'd have carted them away.

"We were sloppy, we responded well to their goal, we were 2-1 up and missed a couple of chances to make the game safe. We've got this terrible habit of trying to coast and see games out.

"A free-kick into our box, we dealt with the first ball and the second ball and we haven't pushed out probably and we've let the lad in. We've spoken about clearing our lines, but twice we've kicked the ball straight to them. Kick it out of play, get it over the halfway line, but don't give it to them to put it back in your box. It's a free header and a goal.

"At 2-2 we're pushing for the winner, we've got a free-kick on the halfway line in the 89th minute, it's not the best free-kick, they've won the header and the second ball and they've broke on us.

"We've spoke about them trying to counter us. It's disappointing because we highlighted how that could happen to us. We had enough chances to win the game and we've only got ourselves to blame, we're kicking ourselves.

"We were playing Stevenage at the right time, they had a bit of a hangover from Saturday but give them the due Darren has got them going second half. They've shown enough fight to take their chances but we've got to be better than that."
