A POPULAR leisure centre is to welcome a £180,000 investment to improve its sauna and steam room.

Hyndburn Leisure Centre has shut its existing sauna and steam facilities to allow work to take place on renovating the suite which customers have called on to be improved.

They will be shut for around 14 weeks and the new facilities are expected to open in January 2018.

The renovation will include a new steam room with almost double the capacity, modern changing facilities, showers, treatment rooms and more.

Steve Tanti, chief executive of Hyndburn Leisure, said the move should bring in more visitors to the centre in Church.

He said: “The public sector leisure industry is changing.

“We have an ongoing improvement plan for our facilities, with the health suite at Hyndburn Leisure Centre next on the list.

“It’s also an area which has been the focus of customer feedback in recent years so we are happy that we can respond to customer demand and improve this facility.

“The new facility will be fantastic and bring in new members to our attractive schemes.”

The luxury health suite has been designed by Pulse Fitness, who successfully tendered for the scheme.

The investment comes on the back of other recent major works at the centre, including the £145,000 refurbishment of the swimming pool completed in February.

The pool had to be shut for more than 10 weeks while work took place.

Children’s play and party centre Adventure City was also opened at the centre in June after half of the sports hall was converted into the soft play area to help attract more people to the centre.

Linda Horsfield, head of health and wellbeing at Hyndburn Leisure, said: “We are delighted to be able to make further improvements to the centre.

“We are sure that our members will be delighted with the new area and we hope to attract new members to what will be a great facility for the borough”.

Staff at Hyndburn Leisure said the move comes as it bids to be ‘smart with investments’ as it continues to deal with grant money being reduced year on year.
