FORMER TV soap actress Sue Jenkins has chosen Saddleworth to premiere her daughter’s play outside Manchester’s theatre land.

Sue, who played Gloria Todd in Coronation Street and Jackie Corkhill in Brookside, is set to stage Narcissist in the Mirror at Millgate Arts Centre, in Delph, on October 22, as part of the Saddleworth Live season.

It’s the award-winning, one-woman show of her daughter Rosie Fleeshman, aged 24, and the first time the show has been performed outside Manchester where it was met with huge critical acclaim and won the award for Best New Writing at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival. “We are thrilled to be bringing Narcissist to the Millgate,” said Sue.

“We’ve heard how great the audiences are there. The play is a one-woman show but after the interval, we’re both looking forward to an interesting Q&A session.”

The self-penned play came about after Rosie took time out from looking for work following her studies and started jotting down her thoughts while travelling the world.

On returning to Manchester, Rosie, who hails from the Fleeshman acting dynasty alongside her dad, David, brother Richard and sister Emily, developed her work into the one-hour show that has since taken the city’s theatre scene by storm.

Described as “funny, thoughtful and immensely brave”, the play is directed by mum Sue.

Tickets are available from saddleworthlive.com or Delph Library.

Saddleworth Live is offering two tickets for the play and a complimentary drink to a lucky Oldham Times readers.
