ROVERS boss Tony Mowbray felt his side got what they deserved after a 1-0 defeat at Oldham Athletic.

Queensy Menig’s last minute strike was enough to condemn Rovers to a fourth defeat of the season at SportsDirect.com Park.

Rovers were second best for much of the game, but looked set to record a sixth clean sheet of the campaign until Menig’s late goal.

And Mowbray said: “We were well below par.

“We could have played until next week and not scored a goal, the creativity was really poor and the movement of the players at the top end of the pitch was really poor.

“We can’t keep a clean sheet every week and scrape a win, we have to be a better football team than that and we weren’t.

“I thought the defence got bullied a little bit, their strikers gave us problems and we didn’t give them any.

“Ultimately we got what we deserved.

“I think we could have still been playing and not scored a goal which was frustrating for everyone, the supporters who have paid good money to travel and it was disappointing for them to see their team not create as much as we should have done.

“I wouldn’t question their desire, I thought that was there and they were a team desperate to get a result but it didn’t happen for us.”

Oldham made it four wins on the bounce with their late show and although Mowbray cited their threat ahead of the game, his focus was on his team who he felt underperformed as an attacking unit.

He added: “They (Oldham) have won four on the bounce now, they came in to the game with confidence and have some talented footballers.

“We were aware of that and yet my disappointment is how we played.

“We have to be miles better than that and if we are to find the consistency to be at the top end of the table then we have to be a lot better than we showed today.

“We made some positive changes to try and affect the game but probably left ourselves more vulnerable at the back than we had been for the first hour.”

“It wasn’t a performance where I come away thinking it was terrible, I just didn’t think we were creative enough in the final third.

“I thought we competed against a team who are at this moment confident.

“Their big number nine (Craig Davies) gave us more problems than he should  have done but the players know my thoughts.”
