THERE was a record-breaking turnout as Burnley Gymnastics Club hosted their Intra Club Floor and Vault Championships.

A bumper entry list of 123 gymnasts aged from six to 14-years-old descended on their BEST Centre home in Burnley to take part in a British Gymnastics Supported Intra Club Floor and Vault Competition.

The event was aimed at gymnasts who are currently doing less than four hours training per week and to give these gymnasts their first opportunity to take part in an organised competition against gymnasts from other clubs.

The competition had a very relaxed feel about it with everyone getting a medal in a grades style format. Trophies were given overall to gymnasts in first, second and third place.

The gymnasts split in to two sessions during the day and a friendly atmosphere was created with each gymnast encouraging each other and supported by coaches, volunteers and parents.

In the first session, six and seven-year-old level one category gymnasts came together with those from the eight and nine-year-old level one category as they took to the floor and vault areas to perform their pre-rehearsed routines in front of a capacity crowd.

In the age six and seven level one category, Erin Jarvis scooped the first overall gold of the day, narrowly pipping Annabelle Ashcroft and Amelia Wyer - who were joint second - with Alexa Banks taking bronze.

In the age eight and nine level one category, Burnley’s Scarlett Botham wowed the home crowd in both disciplines with a near faultless display to deservedly take the gold medal.

Ava Flatley and Grace Wilson, Ellie Haworth and Chloe Gregory (joint third) followed with silver and bronzes overall.

The second session of the day saw those in the 10 and 11-year-old category and 12+ category compete alongside all level two gymnasts.

The age six and seven-year-old level two category was won by Sienna Macdonald in a close contest with Amelia Hibbert and Lucy Huntingdon.

In the age eight and level two category, Katie Hornby took home gold with Maisy Barber and Halle Walden collecting overall Silver and Bronze.

In the age 10 and 11 level one competition, Summer Balderstone produced a fantastic display in her first ever competition to take gold.

Grace Booth took silver and Katie Smith took home bronze medal overall.

In the age 10 and 11 level two category Isla Barnes took overall gold with a great score on her floor and vault routines.

Charlie Hodgetts took deserved silver with Isabelle Whittle taking bronze.

In the age 12+ category level one, Tegan Hamilton produced a brilliant display to take overall gold ahead of Jessica Raw and it was the age 12+ level two category which produced the closest margins of victory with Olivia Noonan just pipping Cora Fifield and Alice Burrows (joint second) and Iona Lochrie in Bronze overall.

Kim Sharples, head Coach of Burnley Gymnastics Club, was delighted to see so many gymnasts taking part - and thanked parents and volunteers for their support.

She said: “We were really pleased to break the record for number of entries into a club competition with 123 competing, it was superb to see so many gymnasts in action.

“We would like to thank all the coaches, volunteers and parents who helped put the competition together, without them we could not do these brilliant events.”
