EAST Lancashire is gearing up another fun weekend with community events set to draw thousands of revellers.

Burnley Town Centre will be transformed into a literary lover’s dream as it welcomes writers, performers and poets to help them celebrate the joy of the written word from October 6 to October 9.

The festival will provide the opportunity to meet your favourite literary characters, award-winning authors, amazing storytellers, and take in colourful shows which will bring books to life.

The annual Darwen Food Festival is set to return and aims to be ‘bigger and better’ than before.

There will be two huge marquees, one for beer and live music and the other for food stalls, to prepare for the Darwen weather.

The event will take place on Darwen Market Square on Saturday from 11am to 9pm.

Visitors can discover what it was like to live and bring up a family at Gawthorpe Hall in the Victorian period with ‘Lady Blanche’ in the Long Gallery in Burnley as part of a Victorian weekend this Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.

The Tiffany-inspired work of a Lancashire stained glass artist is to be showcased at Clitheroe’s Platform Gallery this Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm and will run on the first weekend of every month.

A Civic Art’s team will be at Accrington Library on Saturday at 10am to create a piece of street art.

All you need is to get some chalk and you can take part in the free event.

The third Fun Palace event, which is filled with creative and scientific fun for people of all ages, is set to take place on Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

It will be held at St John’s Church, on Victoria Street, Blackburn.

The Civic’s Autumn Craft Fair will be held at Hippings Vale Community Centre, on Harvey Street in Oswaldwistle.

People will have the chance to buy gifts or early Christmas presents from a variety of stalls on offer including cakes, jewellery, ceramics and cushions.

And for flower lovers, hundreds of orchids will be on display at this month’s North of England Orchid Show at Brockholes Nature Reserve, on Preston New Road, Samlesbury this Sunday from 10am to 3.30pm.
